On a train

Friday saw me get out of bed at 6, get on a train at 7, get to my destination at 12, work, get back on a train at 5, and get off that train at 11.

A long day, but I didn’t mind. First, the work that I did was totally worth the journey, and second, this is what I had in my knitting bag when I got on the train:

And this is what I had when I got off.

This is one of the things that I love about knitting. So much time that could be lost, used so well. Which I think is why knitting grew from a hobby to a passion during my most intense periods of cancer treatment.

(Not that reading a book or even gazing out of a train window is lost time. But complaining about delays, fidgeting, and eating disappointing sandwiches from the trolley just because it’s there and you’re bored… That’s all time that could be better spent knitting, I would say. Especially as, as you’ve heard me say before, Christmas doesn’t knit itself, you know.)
